Google Sites

Catherine and I sat side-by-side with our laptops and created a new Google site each. Still lots to be done, but the site interface is very intuitive and lots of fun to use. Have a peek at:

Home > School > Yoga?

This coming week we start homeschooling the kids again - grades 6 and 8 this year. Garry is taking on all of Christopher's schooling, while I will oversee Catherine. No more late nights or sleeping in around here, sadly. It has been lovely to have some time in the mornings for a leisurely start to the day....

I haven't made any goals or resolutions for this year. Just thinking about what needs to be achieved in 2009 makes me feel tired. But last year I did manage to keep two goals that I feel good about. So I am going to tempt fate and try something in the early mornings before the kids get up.

In addition to the usual routine of making bed, getting on the scales, getting dressed, wrapping my hands around a mug of coffee and turning on the laptop, I want to add: yoga. Nothing earth-shattering, mind you... just a very gentle and peaceful smidge of exercise to get myself ready for the day.

See? That wasn't so hard, was it?

Discover Switch again

This is hopefully some clearer footage of Christopher using his Discover software:

Discover Switch

Christopher can't use either a keyboard or mouse to access his computer. The following video clip shows how he uses his Discover Switch software - which gives him total use of all his computer programs. The only contribution I made to this video was holding the camera and plugging it in so he could download the footage. Everything else was done using a single headswitch that is fastened to his headrest.

The software that comes with Discover Switch throws various context-friendly "keyboard layouts" onto his computer screen. These are then scanned section by section, so that a simple click of the switch selects the button that Christopher wants to use.

DISCLAIMER: I had nothing to do with choosing the music, either! I will try to get a better-quality version up when Christopher has some free time :)

Aquarium

Don't ask me why - but Catherine dearly wanted a small aquarium for Christmas, and we were foolish enough to give it another shot. Here it is, although fish will not be added until later in the week. I am bracing myself for a series of fish funerals...

Testing testing

I signed up as a beta-tester to try out a new organisational system - yes, I am a sucker for trying new ways of organising things!! It's called Autofocus and the creator of the system is happy to take on further testers via his website (click here). The only reason I'm even putting up a blog post today is because of the new system. I entered "write a blog post" as a task and hey presto - here I am. Amazing. It worked!

The real rest of the system, of course, will be when uni and school start up again. This time of year I like to play around with how I process things. Later on I simply process them - and not always successfully. So we shall see. If I keep on blogging over the next couple of months, thank Autofocus :)
