Hippeastrum Splendour
Our garden has been unveiling all sorts of delightful surprises now that it's Spring. These colourful Hippeastrums are putting on a spectacular show around the driveway.
Is it my imagination, or are "Hippeastrum" and "Amaryllis" the same flower? I looked at both in Google images, and they seem the same to me. Perhaps someone with more gardening expertise can enlighten me?
Hippeastrum is often confused with the balladonna lily (Amaryllis belladonna). Hippeastrum is a spring flowering bulb while the belladonna lily flowers in late summer and autumn. Quoted from The Complete Australian Gardener. Love Valda
anyways, tamara, i just wanted to point out that i believe i have found a spelling error in your blog.
you spelled it splendour, and it's actually splendor. for some reason australians are continually making these mistakes... they just cant seem to control their "U" key on their keyboard.. good thing the US of A has reached a point of technological advancement where such blunders have been eliminated entirely
